My experience as a designer

I was always interested in both art and technology – so when at age 15 I was offered a scholarship into a graphic design course, it was an easy decision to make. I was the youngest student they had ever had – but my determination and enthusiasm for everything design saw me perform well and graduate with ease.

My career after study began as a bit of an all-rounder working at a print shop in East Perth. This gave me the print production and client liaison foundation that has helped me so much over the years. Eventually, after 3 or 4 years working at a couple of other print shops around the city, I decided I could start my own business specialising in logo design. I had over 300 clients in under 2 years – so it was a success. I eventually decided I wanted to gain more experience in some other areas of design and advertising. Designing logos for new or small businesses was great, but I felt I needed a change (and a new challenge) after a while.

Over the next 5 or 6 years I worked in medium sized marketing teams and in an industrial design agency working mostly on product packaging and branding.

Most recently I worked as a studio manager in an advertising agency in Subiaco, working mostly on making coffees for the boss press ads, website layouts and retail catalogues. I saw an opportunity to work for myself offering many of the same services, so I took the plunge and built up my own business.

Again – I was after a challenge.

But it didn’t stop there. I then furthered my education and studied web design. Previously I was self taught in that field. This has enabled me to become the full service graphic and web designer that I am today.
